Shopping in Bellevue

Bellevue is where the Pacific Northwest shops, and the numbers agree — the downtown Bellevue Collection alone draws more retail revenue than any single mall in Washington. What makes Bellevue shopping worth writing about, though, isn't the volume. It's that a single fifteen-minute walk downtown covers luxury (The Shops at The Bravern), department-store anchors (Nordstrom Bellevue, Macy's), the largest Apple Store in the region, and Old Bellevue Main Street's independent boutiques — all connected by covered skybridges.

The list below organizes the city by shopping personality. The destination centers — Bellevue Square, Lincoln Square, Bellevue Place, The Bravern — are the ones visitors come for. The local hubs — Old Bellevue Main Street, Crossroads Shopping Center, Factoria — are where residents actually shop. The specialty stops — Bellevue Farmers Market, Uwajimaya, the Microsoft Experience Center, Apple Bellevue Square — are the ones worth planning a trip around.

Two practical notes. Bellevue's downtown parking is remarkably easy: the Collection garages validate for three hours with a $10 purchase at almost any tenant, Bellevue Place gives four free hours without validation on weekends, and street parking on Main Street is free after 6 p.m. and all day Sunday. The other note is timing — Old Bellevue's boutiques run 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and are closed most Mondays; the malls run 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays, until 8 p.m. on Sundays.

For a first-time visitor, we recommend spending a morning at the Bellevue Collection, walking ten minutes west for lunch on Old Bellevue Main Street, then finishing with the Bellevue Farmers Market on Thursday afternoon or Saturday morning if you catch the right day.

Spring brings the Bellevue Farmers Market season (May through October) at First Presbyterian on Thursdays and at the Downtown Park lawn on Saturdays. Main Street's boutiques rotate to spring collections in late March.

Summer is patio-shopping season. Old Bellevue Main Street closes to cars for the Bellevue Arts Fair (late July) and the sidewalk sale weekend that follows. Bellevue Square's outdoor courtyards open with pop-ups from June through September.

Fall is our favorite shopping season locally — new collections drop at Nordstrom and Bravern boutiques, the farmers market pivots to squash and apples, and Uwajimaya runs its best Asian pantry restocks of the year.

Winter is Snowflake Lane from Thanksgiving through Christmas Eve — Bellevue Square's nightly parade at 7 p.m. is a Northwest tradition. Expect the Collection to be packed the two weekends before Christmas; Sundays before noon are the quietest window.
