Why you'll love it
An editor's take
Monsoon earns its place because it treats Vietnamese cooking as a chef's cuisine and backs the kitchen with a wine and cocktail program that most Vietnamese rooms do not attempt. For a modern date night in Old Bellevue or the neighborhood's strongest Sunday brunch, this is our first recommendation.
Highlights

- By-the-glass wine list built for pairing across the spice range

- Family-friendly at brunch; anniversary-friendly at dinner
What you'll experience
The visit, in detail
You step in from Main Street into a warm modern room — wood, low light, an open-kitchen edge on one side, a small bar on the other. The host walks you to your table; ask for the window on Main if it is a summer evening. Order in a lineup: the crispy drunken chicken as the anchor, one wok-charred vegetable, a catfish or seafood preparation from the market specials, and a rice or noodle to balance. The cocktail list is worth a first-round pour — the mekong mule and the herb-forward gin drinks are built with kitchen-standard care. Wines lean off-dry rieslings, gewürztraminers, and Pacific Northwest whites that hold up to the spice; the sommelier can pair by the glass across the range. Sunday dim sum brunch is the other reservation to have — book it and walk Main Street afterward. Meal cadence is unhurried; two hours for two people, two and a half for four.
